Basques, Bustiers, Corsets
All three descriptions are used interchangeably which can be confusing, but there are differences. A bustier is a figure forming top that lifts the breasts and gently shapes the waist. Available in different materials, often with beautiful decoration, a bustier can come with our without shoulder straps and / or sexy suspenders. It is designed to sculpt the body and, thanks to Madonna, is increasingly worn as a fashion item. Basques are also closely fitted but are made of more delicate materials that offer little or no figure-moulding compression. They are longer than bustiers, extending below the waist to the hips. Corsets are designed for figure definition and, although modern styles are much less restrictive, a corset still laces up, contains boning and takes inches off the waist. All that’s left is to choose which type and style you want.
